As well as the immediate risks of sepsis, survivors can face a multitude of complications. These are starkly brought to light in Siobhan McCallin's interview with Belfast Live.

The faster clinicians are given positive sepsis diagnosis and information on the classification of infection, the faster life saving treatment can begin. Catching and treating the infection early can avoid complications and longer term impacts to peoples lives.

The product we are developing, SepTec, will help tackle the global challenge of sepsis which kills more than 11 million people every year.

A short but informative post from The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine on the link between Covid-19 and sepsis.

Even with established protocols to try and diagnose sepsis, there is no existing rapid point of care test which can give clinicians definitive information in life or death scenarios.

Great article from NPR and Dr Chris Murray - highlighting the larger issue of antibiotic resistant 'superbugs'. 

A study published in The Lancet recently found that in 2019, drug resistant infections directly killed 1.2 million people, and played a role in 5 million more deaths worldwide. 

A multi-faceted response is needed to face this growing threat - however this highlights how improved diagnostic tools to better inform and tailor the use of antibiotics is crucial. 

At Novus Diagnostic's we are developing technology to diagnose blood stream infections in as little as 15 minutes, also characterising the source of bacterial or fungal infection - allowing for improved clinician decision making and tailored drug regimes.
