How is climate change affecting food security? This was one of the questions Mario Abreu, Group VP Sustainability at Ferrero, was asked during the #B7 session at the G7 Industry Stakeholders Conference by Confindustria in Pescara. And the takeaway? Food security depends on soil health and farmer livelihood - and both are increasingly affected by climate change. At Ferrero, we're working to support healthier soils, improved farming conditions, and better livelihoods for farming communities. Through our partnerships, we are actively: ▪️Sharing best agricultural practices with farmers in collaboration with the IUCN ▪️Working with the SAN in Malaysia to reduce palm oil growers’ dependence on pesticides. ▪️Peer collaboration through CFI to encourage crop diversification . ▪️Improving conditions for seasonal workers in hazelnut farms alongside the ILO ▪️Partnering with Save the Children to empower 65 cocoa producing communities with education, financial aid and training initiatives We're delighted to play our part in the #B7 and to join other business leaders at sessions like these. Our Ferrero participants of this year’s Nudge Global Impact Challenge joined a three-day learning experience in Amsterdam where they took part in open discussions with other participants and attended workshops dedicated to sustainability. We were delighted to take part in the LEAD Network Europe Annual Conference in Budapest a couple of weeks ago. We've been proud partners of the LEAD Network since 2023. Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Embassy of Italy in the US as Ferrero and the Organización de los Estados Americanos (OAS) hosted the conference “Promoting Access to Rights for youth in the Americas through Sports and Play.” Together, we are advocating for active lifestyles and sports as facilitators of equity, social inclusion, and human development. Sports are inextricably linked to human rights, and this collaboration, along with the Joy of moving program, is helping to guarantee the rights of children, adolescents and women, as we seek gender equality in sports in the Americas. Special thanks to Luis Almagro, Secretary General of OAS, and Ambassador Roberto Nocella, Italy’s Permanent Observer to OAS for setting the stage. The four panelists, Dr. Kitt Petersen, Dr. Spyridoula Vazou, Jeanne Blankenship, MS RDN , and Ferrero’s Matteo Mattei MSc covered a range of scientific, behavioral, clinical, and practical considerations in a conversation moderated by Maricarmen Plata , OAS Secretary for Access to Rights and Equity. The right to education, the right to health, and the right to recreation are essential for building more just and equitable societies.
