2023 has been a year of tremendous hard work across the Ocean Infinity organisation from North America, to Europe, to Asia and Oceania.
 
It hasn't always been smooth sailing but we've achieved some incredible progress:

✔️ Force multiplier USV operations
✔️ Remote geotechnical operations

Last week, for the first time we remotely launched, operated and recovered a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) from one of our lean-crewed robotic ships ‘Armada 78 02’. 

The operation was executed from our onshore Operations Centre in the UK, over 1,000km away from the ship and the ROV – a huge milestone that will enable real-world remote data collection. 

Control Systems Engineer Liam Flavin talks about this milestone achievement and the development involved.

Transformative ways of working at sea will see more offshore operations conducted and monitored onshore - stay tuned for further updates. In the meantime, here's a look back at the development of our UK Operations Centre.

It's no secret that the use of robotics can make for more sustainable operations at sea. In a recent data project for the Australian Government, our robotic vessels collected 58% of the total data but contributed just 4% of the total co2 emissions.

New technology capable of being deployed remotely will make the development of offshore wind farms much more efficient and potentially safer. 

With our remote technology we’re helping to develop the Ossian Wind Farm off the coast of Scotland set to produce energy to up to 6 million homes. In an industry first operation, our newly developed CPT (cone penetration test) unit was operated over satellite link to assess the seabed where the wind turbines will eventually be installed. A big step towards remote geotechnical operations. 

Thank you to the Ossian group for supporting us with the testing of this new capability. This successful remote operation demonstrates that offshore operations can evolve towards a safer and greener maritime future 🌊.

Our autonomous underwater robots can capture data up to 6,000m below the surface of the ocean. In 2017 we made history by deploying 8 ‘AUVs’ at once - a major first for the industry. 

Today, we operate the world’s largest fleet of deep-water AUVs, giving us an unmatched ability to collect ocean data at an enormous scale. 

Our multi-AUV approach to ocean data collection has a big role to play in the growing floating offshore wind market. Next year we’ll be supporting Equinor on the development of the first-ever floating offshore wind farm off the US West Coast.

Our uncrewed ship fleet is continuing to grow. 

Our 6th ship Armada '7806' has been handed over to its new captain. After a successful set of sea trials, 7805 and 7804 will shortly enter a mobilisation phase before entering commercial work. 

Another milestone on our journey towards tech-enabled lean-crewed operations for a safer and greener maritime future.
