Whilst The 8 Elements provides the foundation for our vineyards – our philosophy of working in harmony with nature provides the cornerstone for all our viticultural activities.

The vineyard team understand the importance of attention to detail being the necessary ingredient to ensure the ultimate goal – the perfect grape. The team takes great pride in their vineyards and our mission to create Exceptional Wines from an Extraordinary Place.

The elevated position in the mountains gives us a unique and refreshing coolness. We believe our valley is the perfect place to grow grapes and everything we do is focused on the highest quality of wines.

Over time we have gained a deep understanding of the unique set of eight natural elements that provide the foundation for our extraordinary terroir. Our ancient soils – which are predominantly weathered granites and Table Mountain sandstones are over 600 million years old. They are perfect for water retention and their rockiness allows for deep root penetration.

We believe wine is an encapsulation of what nature does best. We are inspired by nature and committed to protect and nurture our environment. When making our wines we let the terroir of Rondekop, our iconic round hill, express themselves. We harvest the grapes at optimal ripeness, applying minimal manipulation and gentle extraction in the cellar.

Our aim is to produce exceptional wines with balance and elegance at their core. We take great pride in our vineyards, our team, and our mission to create Exceptional Wines from an Extraordinary Place.


More than just a proprietor, Adrian Vanderspuy has a deep familial connection with the farm. He reflects on his journey with the property, the story of his grandmother - Una Van der Spuy - and how she became known as the doyenne of South African gardening, and introduces the Una V, a tribute to this vibrant, ambitious woman.

Following rigorous on-site audit encompassing all facets of the estate, from vineyards to cellar, Oldenburg Vineyards has been selected by WWF SA as a beacon of conservation excellence within the Cape wine industry. Recognised for leadership in biodiversity preservation, habitat restoration, water stewardship and energy management, Oldenburg Vineyards has embraced the role of Conservation Champion with a dedication to ongoing improvement in these critical areas.

This accolade places Oldenburg Vineyards among a select group of wine farms recognised for their proactive approach to harmonizing agricultural practices with nature. Through the Conservation Champion program Oldenburg Vineyards commits to maintaining priority conservancy areas while upholding sustainable practices across its vineyards. This commitment extends beyond environmental concerns to encompass social responsibility, encompassing human rights, gender equality and fair labour practices.

As a tangible symbol of its dedication to sustainability, Oldenburg Vineyards will in future proudly display the WWF Conservation Champion Sugarbird and Protea logo on its packaging, allowing consumers to readily identify its commitment to environmental and ethical excellence.
