Felicity Cousins editor of Sustainable Hotel News and Michael Mason-Shaw general manager Hyatt Place London City East got together and launched Sustainability Bites – It's all about the G to look into governance in ESG, what is driving it and how it impacts on the hotel sector.

Top climate policy priorities on Data and Regulation from the new King's Business School e-book Accelerating Transition!

Here are some of the recommendations offered by climate finance leaders within the book on getting high-quality, decision-useful data, and creating the financial regulatory environment necessary to drive positive change!

·      Set new, higher rates of capital gains tax for high-carbon emitters and polluters
·      Broaden the reporting mandate to include all companies with five or more employees and/or turnover of £500,000 
·      Mandate listed and large UK-registered companies to develop comprehensive transition plans aligned with the Transition Plan Taskforce

These insights outline the policies that the new government should prioritise in its first six months to address climate change and establish the UK as a leading net zero finance hub.

What climate finance policies should the new government prioritise in their first 100 days?

Professor Jonatan Pinkse has joined a range of climate finance thought-leaders to address this question in a new Climate Finance Policy Playbook.

Published this week, the playbook is packed with expert insights, including a chapter written by Jonatan in collaboration with DNV UK: 'Reinstating trust in Climate Finance: The need for upskilling and convergence of standards'.

In the chapter, they discuss the need for two vital government interventions:

🌿 1) Upskill all parts of the UK economy on the importance, opportunities and risks of climate finance.

🌿 2) Align all sustainability regulation and standards.

A couple of weeks ago we had a fantastic day at the UHY Hacker Young National Conference. We were honoured to drive the ESG agenda with Harriet Hodgson-Grove and Subarna Banerjee on a day when the key theme was “building the firm of the future”. 

As we look ahead, it's essential to embrace innovation and collaboration to thrive in an ever-evolving landscape. Driven by the purpose of ‘helping you prosper’, Dr Marc Lepere and Ben Horn discussed the importance of embracing ESG to keep up with constantly changing client needs and the threats to the accountancy profession if action is not taken today.

📢 New Policy Recommendations for UK Climate Finance 📢

Bankers for Net Zero (B4NZ) are proud to share a new climate finance policy playbook edited by David Carlin, David Aikman, Dr Marc Lepere, and Luca Taschini which included a chapter from our CEO, Heather Buchanan.

Heather used her chapter *Empowering SMEs for a Net-Zero Future: Challenges, Solutions, and the Importance of Collaboration* to explore the challenges SMEs face in sustainability reporting and to recommend the UK government develop standard reporting frameworks and automated tools like Project Perseus to streamline data collection and improve access to green investment. 

The e-book brings together experts from business, finance, international organisations, and academia and makes several climate finance policy recommendations for the new UK government. Key recommendations include:

🔼 Higher Capital Gains Tax for heavy carbon emitters
✅ Streamlined listing rules for green companies

The e-book features contributions from nearly forty thought leaders, including with contributions from World Benchmarking Alliance, Global Systems Institute, University of Exeter, E3G, PwC, Climate Bonds Initiative, Chapter Zero, Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) and many others.

Last week the FT published a short film "Who killed the ESG party" (link in comments). Well, we are happy to say that ESG party is only just beginning. Perhaps the 'frat boys' of ESG are not longer invited to the party and its time for the science club to take over. 

To that end, we are excited to share that our Co-Founder and Chief Science Officer Dr Marc Lepere together with David Carlin, David Aikman, Jonatan Pinkse, Joseph Noss, Sarah Bracking, Emily Farrimond and Raúl C. Rosales, PhD, under King's Business School have published a new e-book as a climate finance policy playbook for the new UK government - "Accelerating Transition: Climate Finance Policies To Prioritise In The First 100 Days" (link in comments). 

Here are 3 top policy recommendations: 

1️⃣ Regulate the calculation and reporting of GHG emissions and require audit

2️⃣ Broaden the reporting requirement to cover 96 percent of UK business emissions

3️⃣ Adopt IFRs standards, while repudiating proportionality
