We are thrilled to announce our official debut as Opna Bio this morning, launching with a $38 million Series A financing from Longitude Capital, Northpond Ventures and Menlo Ventures. Opna is a rare kind of start-up, founded to advance a novel oncology discovery target (fragile X mental retardation protein, or FRMP) that plays a key role in helping tumors evade immune destruction, and strengthened with a portfolio of validated clinical and preclinical compounds acquired from Plexxikon, Inc. The company was cofounded by Gideon Bollag, PhD, CEO, Douglas Hanahan, PhD, and Joseph Schlessinger, PhD, who collectively have garnered multiple FDA-approved oncology drugs to their names.
