We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Direct-Use Product Emissions Database (DPED), a new tool to help retailers and their suppliers quantify emissions stemming from consumers’ use of their products.

Developed in partnership with the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), DPED has been a true group effort, with input coming from retailers like Target, Lowe's Companies, Inc., Best Buy, and many others, plus an ex officio committee that included industry and regulatory leaders.

The database contains emissions data for over 180 product types, and is designed to fill the gap in consistent scope 3, category 11 data. It is available at no cost to retailers in its inaugural year.

The evidence continues to mount that ESG programs are no longer a nice-to-have; it’s an essential value driver for businesses of all sizes and industries. In a recent survey, Deloitte found that over 70% of companies have abandoned an acquisition over ESG concerns. 

Mature ESG programs are a clear market signal of a well-run company. This survey found that over 80% of respondents would pay a premium for strong ESG practices. This is another clear example of how markets assign real value to these efforts.
