I’m getting ready to head to day 2 of the #SLASDataAI Symposium. Yesterday’s talks and posters reminded me that, although we’re each researching one specific area, the applications of data science and AI/ML in drug discovery are diverse - image analysis, autonomous robots, LLMs, prediction of compounds and their properties, and the infrastructure to support it all. Derek Lowe (In the Pipeline blog) urged us in his keynote to remember that we should consider not only what an AI/ML model can tell us, but what it can’t say is at least as important. This morning Geoff Skillman gave a fascinating talk about 3D QSAR and I’m looking forward to learning about advances in Antibody Theraputics (Jesper Sorensen), Design of Experiment ( Gregory Bakken ), faster Virtual Screening ( Matthew• Geballe ), Crystal Structure Prediction ( Jeff Grandy ), Cryptic Pocket Detection ( David LeBard ) and more. It’s impressive that OpenEye can provide solutions for all these diverse drug discovery challenges. The view of downtown Boston from the Museum of Science is pretty nice too!
