A new global consensus has recently emerged: no more higher interest rates for longer in advanced economies. If this new scenario is confirmed, the implications for Latin America would be considerable. In particular, it should accelerate the revaluation of assets in those economies in the region that were early movers in implementing stabilizing policies and managed to advance structural reform agendas. The market reaction to the first stage of the reorganization of the Brazilian tax system, approved in December, is an interesting example of this phenomenon.​

Patryck Pimpao Merhy, our Partner and Asia Pacific CEO, joined the FII PRIORITY summit in Hong Kong, as a keynote speaker earlier this month. The FII Institute , a non-profit organization founded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, partnered with the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, and the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, to host its flagship event in Asia for the first time, following previous successful summits in London, New York, and Miami. ​

With over 100 speakers from 45 different countries and 1,000 attendees over a two-day summit, the event gathered distinguished leaders in business, government, academia, civil society, technology and the media to discuss key global priorities and mega trends shaping the future of humanity: from the importance of Asia and the power of enhanced connectivity between Asia, the Middle East and Latin America, to sustainable development and the role of technology and AI in help making life better for all.​

During the MENA-Asia Tech Corridor panel, Patryck highlighted the benefits of greater connectivity between Asia, the Middle East and Latin America, how complementary these regions are and the tremendous growth potential that can be unlocked by further partnering together, particularly in infrastructure, energy transition, food security and digitalization.
