Our annual Digital Government Adoption Index report is now out! We surveyed 2000+ consumers and 600 government leaders across North America with the goal of understanding the impact of modernization efforts in government thus far — and where digital government is going in the future.

The last decade or so saw state and local governments add digital channels for many services, but there still exists a lot of opportunity for improved experiences and increased ROI. The survey responses indicate a shift to the second wave of digital government service delivery, which we're calling "Government Customer Experience 2.0."

Black and African Americans have continued to make a significant impact on our country's history, culture, and growth. So as we close out this month, we celebrate some of the trailblazers in government who took on new positions of leadership.

To end #BlackHistoryMonth, we recognize Carol Mosely Braun and Shirley Chisholm, the first African American women to be elected to U.S. Senate and U.S. Congress, respectively.

Born in Chicago in 1947, Moseley Braun came of age in the midst of the civil rights movement and pursued a career in law. In 1992 she defeated both the Democratic incumbent and the Republican challenger for a seat in the U.S. Senate, becoming the first female senator from Illinois and the first African American woman to serve in the Senate. During her 10-year tenure, she became known for her advocacy of health care reform, education reform, and other progressive policies.

Chisholm initially worked as a nursery school teacher, though her professors encouraged her to pursue a career in politics. After earning a master’s degree from Columbia University and getting increasingly involved with politics and social change, she was elected to the U.S. Congress in 1968. Her motto and title of her autobiography—Unbought and Unbossed—illustrates her outspoken advocacy for women and minorities during her seven terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

At a recent event, government leaders explored their priorities in 2024, which — no surprise — includes customer experience. As these leaders look to improve this experience, they are often turning to the private sector for help.

“I’m not looking for vendors, I’m looking for partners,” said North Dakota CISO Michael Gregg, putting a fine point on sentiments offered by many of his peers. “I’m not interested in a transactional relationship.”
