The EU’s Innovation Fund–powering circular hydrogen and climate solutions This week, 85 winners of the latest call were announced, and at Zaz Ventures, we are proud to have supported one of Sweden’s winners: Plagazi! Plagazi is set to receive €29.5m from the Innovation Fund to accelerate growth while driving impactful decarbonization across sectors that rely on hydrogen, from industrial manufacturing to transportation. Plagazi uses a patented plasma gasification process; Plagazi will convert 22,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste—like wind turbine blades—into 3,300 tonnes of clean hydrogen annually. By capturing embedded CO2 and contributing to local heating, this project aligns with the EU’s REPowerEU plan and sets a new standard for circular, net-negative hydrogen production. Yesterday, our CPO Linnéa Lang , and CFO, Leonard Kemper , were honored to present Plagazi 's solution at an impactful event in Berlin, hosted by Jochen Wermuth , Hans-Josef Fell and the Holocene Project . The event focused on the critical challenge of achieving the necessary speed of the sustainable transition. New project alert 🌱 ! Plagazi , Alleima , Gastrike atervinnare and Mackmyra Bruk are launching a joint feasibility study for future sustainable waste recycling and circular hydrogen production. The companies announce that they are launching a study to explore the possibilities of implementing an innovative project in sustainable and local waste recycling and production of circular hydrogen in Gävle muncipality. The feasibility study is an important first step towards realizing a future project that can promote both local industry and contribute to the climate transition. The project aims to explore the use of Plagazi 's patented technology to convert non-recyclable waste into circular hydrogen through an innovative plasma gasification process. This technology captures greenhouse gas emissions and help reduce carbon emissions for companies both inside and outside the municipality. The project partners Plagazi , Alleima , Gastrike atervinnare and Mackmyra Bruk have jointly initiated the feasibility study. The study, which will be carried out between May and October 2024, includes site selection, technical and economic analysis. Each party is contributing its expertise and resources to ensure a comprehensive and informed assessment of the feasibility of the project. "This project can further strengthen Alleima 's sustainability efforts. Innovative new technologies are crucial for the transition. If successful, we can reduce carbon emissions and achieve circular solutions for challenging waste fractions." says Katarina Veem , Sustainability Manager at Alleima 's Tube division." "Using non-recyclable waste to produce hydrogen and strengthen the local energy system feels incredibly exciting. We hope that the feasibility study means that local production can be started in our immediate area, which would save both transport, finances and climate emissions," says Therese Metz, chairman of Gastrike atervinnare The feasibility study will result in a comprehensive report describing the planned plant, waste supply, hydrogen sales, carbon capture and storage (CCS), logistics and the economic viability of the project. Plagazi and Neue Energien Premnitz GmbH (NEP) are excited to announce the creation of the Special Purpose Vehicle ‘SPV Premnitz Hydrogen Park Gmbh’ for the ‘Havelstoff Project’ in Germany. This partnership aims to accelerate the development of a Plagazi state-of-the-art plasma gasification plant, capable of producing up to 7,500 tonnes of fuel-cell grade circular hydrogen annually. NEP will provide local waste supply expertise, while Plagazi will lead the permitting process and the general project development. Sweco Germany GmbH will support the project’s permitting process as an environmental consultant. This initiative signifies a crucial step in Germany's transition to a hydrogen-centric economy. Nu är det bråttom för regeringen att ta fram en sådan 💡 Vätgasen är viktig för att nå klimatmålen – och särskilt i Sverige. Här är vätgasen nyckeln till den tunga industrins, sjöfartens OCH flygets omställning. Tack vare Sveriges fossilfria el har vi dessutom bättre förutsättningar för grön vätgas än vad många andra EU-länder har. Mer fossilfri vätgas skulle även minska Sveriges sårbarhet. För med hjälp av vätgas kan mer energi lagras och användas för lokal försörjningstrygghet som då ersätter importerade fossila bränslen. Det finns alltså inga argument för regeringen att inte ta fram en nationell vätgasstrategi.
