Protembis is an Aachen, Germany based medical device startup. It develops a novel catheter-based filter device for use during cardiac interventions. The device is designed to minimize the risk of stroke and other neurological injury during these interventions – particularly during transcatheter aortic valve replacement procedures (TAVR/ TAVI).

The filter blocks embolic debris from entering the blood vessels leading to the brain. The initial safety and feasibility of the ProtEmbo® device has been demonstrated in a first-in-human study in 2017/ 2018. The imaging data of the study suggests that the ProtEmbo® device decreases the risk of brain injury by up to 90%.

Protembis has closed an oversubscribed $10M Series A financing round in 2018 and expects to bring its product to market maturity with this round. Therefore the team plans to conduct further clinical studies in heart centers in Europe and the U.S.

The ProtEmbo® device is not yet commercially available.

Congratulations to the authors of this final study report Simone Fezzi Darren Mylotte Dariusz Jagielak Nikos Werner. Use of the ProtEmbo cerebral embolic protection system was very safe, and shown to significantly reduce clinically meaningful cerebral lesions that could lead to stroke after TAVR.  ProtEmbo is the only CEP deployed via the left radial artery, and was intuitive to use in the 10 sites by 14 different operators, it was deployed on average in ~4 minutes.

We are looking for a highly motivated Operations Manager to join our growing team to help support the commercialisation of the next generation of cerebral embolic protection systems.
 
This position is responsible for the management of supply chain operations, including planning, direction, coordination, and team leadership for purchasing, receiving, inspection, production, and sterilization of goods needed to maintain or produce the ProtEmbo System.
 
Key Responsibilities: 
 
· Demand Planning: Consult cross functional teams to determine the necessary information for demand planning purposes.
· Strategic Planning: Develop and implement supply chain strategies that align with the overall organizational goals and objectives. Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost savings, and operational efficiency enhancements. 
· Stock and Procurement Management: Ensuring that goods received are handled according to defined procedures and in a timely manner. 
· Management of Production: Work in close contact with production to ensure that every information and all materials are available at point of usage.
· Supplier Management and Implementation: First point of contact for suppliers providing goods related to clinical and commercial System. Lead the implementation of identified second sources together with R&D.
· Cost Optimization: Drive cost savings initiatives throughout the supply chain by analyzing data, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing effective strategies. Continuously monitor and optimize procurement processes to minimize costs while maintaining quality standards.

Profile:
 
· Minimum of a Bachelor’s or equivalent University Degree required; focused degree in Supply Chain, Logistics Sciences, Engineering, or related field is preferred 
· 5+ years of progressive experience in materials or other related supply chain or manufacturing operations role
· Expert language skills in German and English.

Protembis is a European medical device company focusing on clinical research of our product, the ProtEmbo® Cerebral Protection System, with the goal to protect the brain during Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), thereby minimizing cerebral lesions, improving patient quality of life, and reducing overall healthcare costs associated with TAVR procedures.
 
Protembis is progressing well with compelling data on safety and performance coming from a European trial in TAVR. We have approval from the FDA to initiate an Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) study in early 2024. 
 
To prepare for market access, we are recruiting a Head of Reimbursement and Market Access.
 
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
1.     Develop market access strategies in key global geographies to establish structural reimbursement for ProtEmbo. With specific focus on the USA and detailed process for Western Europe and recommendations for Japan.
2.     Collaborate with Health Economic Outcome Research (HEOR) specialists, the clinical KOL community, and groups such as the EuHTA agency to create materials to enable health technology assessment programs.
3.     Own the development of appropriate cost effectiveness models and/ or budget impact models.
4.     Collaborate with the commercial leadership on pricing models in key geographies, including US and Western Europe and ultimately Japan.
5.     Personal management of the execution on the market access strategy with priorities identified in US, Western Europe, Japan.
 
Profile:
 
·       Previous cardiovascular expertise in reimbursement, pricing, and health economics is a must, with minimum 5 years experience.
·       Experience of the USA Medicare coding, coverage, and payment systems for new technologies.
·       Hands on approach.
·       An industry experience of the TAVR market is an advantage.
·       A passion to work in a start-up environment and bring novel technologies to the market.
·       Can be based in USA or Western Europe.
