The awards ‘recognise and celebrate the dedication and accomplishments of journalists and newsrooms across all sectors of the UK media industry’ and Reach won awards in three categories: ◾ The WalesOnline team won Investigation of the Year – Regional for their Vaughan Gething donations investigation. ◾ Commentator of the Year – Popular went to the Mirror’s Assistant Editor Darren Lewis. ◾ And Belfast Live’s Jilly Beattie won Journalist of the Year – Regional. The Liverpool Echo has backed a city-wide campaign to raise funds to save baby hospice Zoe’s Place from closure. In October, devastated staff were told that the centre would be closing by the end of the year. The news sparked a local campaign to raise £5 million within 30 days to save Zoe’s Place, with the Echo calling on readers to support it. The campaign has seen people from all walks of life doing their bit to raise money, including celebrities Claire Sweeney and Steven Gerrard. Last week, Home Bargains' owner TJ Morris pledged £2.5m. With just two days to go, the total raised is over £5.9m of the £6.4m target, with one last push to raise the final £490k before 9th November.
