It recently cost one company $25 million, and it could be even more costly for organizations without a security plan.

Could an existing law put an end to more deepfake robocalls?

A law criminalizing non-consensual deepfake pornography may be here sooner than originally thought. 

But would it actually make a lasting impact with tangible results — or die on the Senate floor?

Thousands of ordinary people, 99% of them women/those perceived as women, have become targets of non-consensual deepfakes.

They endured unimaginable grief and trauma in the process, having their entire lives upended because someone put them in adult materials without their consent and virtually without consequence.

Now, the same thing has happened to Taylor Swift, and on a massive scale — in front of 100 Million+. Ms. Swift deserves the same privacy and protections as all people, and her trauma from this incident is not greater/lesser than any one person's trauma after being targeted by a non-consensual deepfake.

That said, we're now at the point where the aforementioned thousands of  people might only (finally) be heard and see justice because Taylor Swift dealt with the same thing.

The platforms where this content lives have no legal incentive to police this content. Their trust and safety teams are all but gone.

We need legislation today, not tomorrow. 

For non-consensual #deepfake pornography. 

For all deepfakes and weaponized #AI. 

For all people, everywhere, and quickly.
