📣 This morning, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Reinvestment Fund and the USDA announced that 16 organizations have been selected for the Healthy Food Financing (HFFI) Local and Regional Partnerships Program. 

Reinvestment Fund's Anne Misak stated, "America’s HFFI program has already invested over $25 million in direct funding for 162 food retail and food retail supply chain projects. Past projects are located in 48 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. HFFI is truly a national program, working to improve access to healthy food, grow local economic opportunities, and strength local food supply chains. Reinvestment Fund is grateful to USDA, the Biden-Harris Administration, and Congress for the increased funding that allowed America’s HFFI to expand to include the HFFI Partnerships Program. This combination of resources is critical to ensuring that all American’s have access to good food and economic opportunities in their communities."

Over $40M in grants will support food financing programs to provide funding to food retail and food supply chain projects in rural, urban and Tribal communities serving 20 states and Washington D.C.

Guaranteed income aims in part to correct for the failings of traditional financial assistance programs, which have a long history of discrimination and disempowerment.

“The real goal of these guaranteed income studies is to understand how additional money every month that’s regular and consistent improves well-being across a couple of different dimensions,” says Michael Norton, Chief Policy Analyst at Reinvestment Fund. “So social and emotional stress reduction, financial stress reduction, as a way to help people stabilize their lives day to day, week to week, month to month.”

To help the City of Akron, Ohio make data-driven decisions that can spur new development and improve the quality of existing homes for all Akron residents, the City engaged Reinvestment Fund and Greater Ohio Policy Center. 

"The Market Value Analysis and Housing Strategy Report provide an important and insightful update on the state of Akron’s housing market, as well as actionable recommendations for stabilizing our neighborhoods and extending access to quality affordable homes,” said Mayor Shammas Malik. “This information is timely and will be valuable to City staff as we implement housing programs, and will also assist our nonprofit development partners, builders, and lenders working in Akron.”

The strategic workplan offers 23 recommended actions that:

▶️ Enhance Existing Neighborhoods
▶️ Protect Vulnerable Residents, and Retain/Attract Residents
▶️   Lower Barriers to Development and Redevelopment

Reinvestment Fund’s HBCU Brilliance Initiative received a $4.25 million investment from The Kresge Foundation to support critical investments in the facilities and most importantly the overall growth of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the country.

“As an HBCU alumnus, I am proud of the work Reinvestment Fund and the HBCU Brilliance Initiative has already done to provide HBCUs with an increase in financial stability now, to achieve the long-term growth they desire,” said Damien Wilson, Senior Director of the HBCU Brilliance Initiative. “I thank Kresge Foundation for their investment, which will help us provide these historic institutions with an important source of fiscal capital.”
