Executives from B Capital, Monk's Hill Ventures, Rigel Capital and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce discuss venture funding in SE Asia after the unveiling of the Southeast Asia Deal Review 2023 report, produced by DealStreetAsia and Rigel Capital, at the Indonesia PE-VC Summit 2023.

"We’re seeing more disciplined behaviour, in evaluations and business decisions, which will ultimately help the market correct and bounce back", said Susli Lie, Partner, Monk's Hill Ventures.

“I feel they were great when they were small,” said Aldi Haryopratomo, Vice Chair, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce when asked what sets companies like eFishery and Halodoc apart from other business. He added that successful companies focus on creating great business fundamentals in the early stages."

“I think there is more commitment to come into Southeast Asia from LPs [in 2024], as China is tied [due to geopolitical issues],” said Kabir Narang, Founding General Partner, B Capital . He added that there was a lot of capital raised in 2021 that is still waiting to be deployed, and 2024 seems ripe to benefit from that.

“As investors we see a downturn as an opportunity,” said Sebastian Togelang, Founder & Managing Partner, Rigel Capital Management. He said that the current downturn is a good time to pick up strong companies at reasonable valuations.
