I usually work with Unity3D. Last week I decided it was time to get familiar with Unreal Engine 5. 

If you are a creative person I highly reccommend having a play with it. You will be surprised how much fun you can have without being a coder! Understanding the basics in coding is helpful but being an excellent coder is not necessary as the visual coding system (where your code is in a box and you link the boxes together) is relatively straight forward to use. 

It took me about a week with zero UE5 experience, and some expertise from the amazing Johnny Pope  and Georg Finch to get my Rokoko motion capture suit 'puppeteering' a 3D rigged character in real time. You guys are simply the best 🙏🔥

There's the time that goes into making your rigged character if its custom, with a skeleton and Apple's 52 facial blendshapes - about 3 weeks to 2 months depending on the complexity and uniqueness of your design.

Then decades of puppeteering, live performance and animation experience is perhaps less quantifiable.

I thought about my dear departed grandad, Ken Clark, an animator and editor of the Animator magazine produced by Cosgrove Hall when I was a kid. He taught me frame by frame hand drawn and stop motion animation as soon as I could walk 😆. He would have been amazed at the speed we can animate now.😮

Now is a time where a Createch skills - being an animator, a character designer, a puppeteer, a storyteller and a live performer underpinned by technical expertise is a brilliantly useful combination.
