Here's how we think about it. 🎯 1️⃣ Total Target Market Don't define a target market that's too broad. Prioritize the conditions and treatments you are best at servicing. 2️⃣ In-Market Your best luck in marketing strategy is reaching those who are actively looking RIGHT NOW for a practice or a physician. 3️⃣ Awareness If you invest in awareness, you'll be able to better convert patients when they're looking.

Google's ad recommendations are almost always terrible for your medical practice. Here are just a few examples: 1️⃣ Google Wants You to Use Broad Match This is the most common mistake we see. Google will say they can understand the "meaning" behind the keyword and show your ads for similar search terms. The problem is that broad match will waste your budget on clicks that aren't relevant to your practice. Example - if you buy the keyword "urgent care near me" and have broad match on, you might show up for "obgyn clinic." We've even seen Google buy other physician names that don't even apply to your speciality. Google's goal is to get more revenue - which it gets from driving more clicks. Which is why we almost never recommend broad match. 2️⃣ Google Wants You to Turn On Automatically Generated Ads & Assets Would you trust Google to write your ads? Select photos? We wouldn't, especially for medical practices. Google simply doesn't understand the nuances of the conditions and treatments your practice addresses. 3️⃣ Google Wants You to Automatically Apply Recommendations This is perhaps the biggest grift in Google Ads, but we see it commonly when ads are being run by an individual without expertise, or an agency who is charging next to nothing to manage campaigns. In reality, the end result is that control is given over to Google to run your campaigns, which results in what Google wants - more clicks (revenue in Google's pocket). We essentially turn off auto-apply recommendations for all of our clients. Better to let an expert who understands your goals manage your campaigns. 4️⃣ Google Wants You to Turn On Enhanced Conversions It's always something new. If you're advertising on Google, you're probably seeing these messages about turning on enhanced conversions. Google initially started promoting this before it's vow to eliminate cookies, which it now is no longer doing. But it's still promoting this feature, which asks advertisers to upload lead and customer data into Google to better match conversion activity. The problem is, for medical practices, using this feature is a violation of HIPAA. Almost every recommendation Google makes through the platform, or through their ad reps have the platform's best interests at heart, and not always your practice. That's why it's good to have a partner like RUNNER managing your campaigns - someone who knows the pitfalls to avoid and the strategies that work to get more patients for your practice.

Here's how 👇 ✅ Active Medical Research = Google Search Google search is the best way to target the largest amount of people actively researching their symptoms, conditions and treatments. Google Search Ads will allow you to show up right away, but don't forget that local SEO is one of the most important long-term marketing strategies you need to put in place. ✅ Consider Social Media For practices that target patients under 40, social media is increasingly becoming a close second to Google Search, as social platforms are increasingly used as search engines by younger demographics. About 1 in 4 younger patients will start medical research this way. Platforms like TikTok now offer search keyword targeting. ✅ Maximize Active Research Targeting, Then Move On to Passive Channels like TV, and even Facebook Ads are passive medical research channels, because unlike Google Search, there's no way to know in your targeting if someone is actively looking. Only move to these passive channels once you've maximized your spend and opportunity in the active channels above.

Marketing KPIs your medical practice should know: Lead to OV Rate. This measures the percentage of your leads that become office visits. This is important because it helps you understand a few things. 1️⃣ Lead Handling. Fundamentally, this measures how well your front office is doing at handling leads. A low "Lead to OV Rate" generally means you're not working leads enough. 2️⃣ Which Marketing Channels Are Best at Driving OVs Your Lead to OV Rate will be different based on channel. Some channels, like Google Ads, may have a much higher Lead to OV Rate than Meta ads.
