In its latest policy announcement, the Bank of Canada (BoC) acknowledged that inflation has eased but is seeking sustained evidence of this downward momentum. The March CPI report, which was softer than expected, is a step forward in that direction. Notably, the traditional core inflation, which excludes food and energy, is just a touch above target at 2.1%, while the average of the BoC's preferred core inflation gauges, CPI-Trim, Median, and Common, fell to within the 1-3% inflation control range at 2.9%. The BoC will stay data-dependent, but the progress on inflation keeps the door open to a June rate cut. #BoC #inflation #ratecut
