RWDC Industries is on a mission to replace petroleum-derived materials with safe, sustainable alternatives. We have developed technology to harvest outputs of a microbial fermentation process using plant-based oils that produces a naturally occurring biodegradable polymer called PHA (or polyhydroxylalkanoate).

PHA’s are biopolymers naturally produced by microbial fermentation of plant-based oils or sugar. RWDC’s PHA — Solon — is certified by TÜV Austria to be fully biodegradable in soil, water and marine conditions. Solon is 100% biodegradable with no toxic residue.

Solon is a global solution to today’s plastic waste management challenge, and it's an ideal material for replacing petroleum-derived, single-use plastics — such as cutlery, cups, bags, plates and bowls.

In Singapore last year, around 94% of plastic waste was not recycled, according to a recent Temasek infographic on recycling. You may be wondering then, is plastic recycling worth it?
 
The long-term solution to the plastic waste crisis is reducing fossil-fuel-based plastic and replacing it with bio-based alternatives like RWDC’s Solon™ PHA. However, it is important to remember that individuals and businesses can take steps to make plastic recycling more successful in the interim. These include recycling only recyclable plastics and cleaning recycled items before discarding them.

For the first time, scientists have found microplastic pollution in human blood. The research, reported by scientists from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, found microplastics in close to 80% of the people tested. 
 
RWDC CEO Dr. Daniel Carraway said microplastic pollution is in a similar situation to cigarette and tobacco-related health concerns in the mid 20th century. "We had a pretty good idea it wasn't good for us, but it took verifiable studies to get us to wake up and understand the severity of the problem, " Dr. Carraway said.
