Welcome to the future!

This year, GreenLight Biosciences made history by dispatching what we believe to be the largest shipment of Ribonucleic Acid (RNA) ever: dozens of kilograms of Calantha, our highly targeted dsRNA insecticide.  Calantha is an exceptionally safe and efficient biochemical molecule tailored to combat Colorado potato beetles, safeguarding our potato crops, and potentially replacing hundreds of metric tons of chemical pesticides. Our manufacturing process for dsRNA is remarkably cost-effective—up to a million times less expensive than other RNA manufacturers, with a volumetric capacity up to 100,000 times higher. These economies of scale are vital as we strive to leverage RNA as a powerful tool to protect our global food supply and preserve our environment and biodiversity.

Our second product, vadescana, is awaiting regulatory approval and is designed to protect honeybees from the devastating Varroa mite. In 2022, these mites led to the collapse of up to 50% of bee colonies in North America, with the crisis exacerbating due to mite resistance to traditional chemical controls. Recent trials with beekeepers worldwide have demonstrated vadescana's ability to prevent colony collapse in over 90% of treated beehives.

To meet the anticipated demand for Calantha and vadescana, GreenLight Biosciences is embarking on a significant expansion of our manufacturing capacity—by at least 20-fold. Just this week, I glimpsed the future as our manufacturing team toured an impressive facility, soon to be unveiled, which will enable us to produce dozens of metric tons of dsRNA annually. This level of production will allow us to treat millions of crop acres and tens of millions bee colonies, while displacing up to 1,000 metric tons of chemical pesticides.

The future is biologic, and we are honored to be at its forefront!

Brimstone was selected for a transformational $189 million investment by U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Industrial Demonstration Program.

No one knows more about decarbonizing our economy, or about what it will take to achieve global impact than DOE. By backing Brimstone’s commercial demonstration plant, the DOE has offered jet fuel to accelerate our scale-up and path to market.

Since Day One, we’ve believed that decarbonizing cement requires developing a product identical to the industry-standard portland cement that builders everywhere know and trust. The process would need to be extremely low-carbon, and cost-competitive at full scale. DOE’s investment in Brimstone is a powerful validation of this approach and our work.
