On April 22 to 25, members of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) met in Hong Kong to discuss pressing global challenges related to regional and economic integration, sustainability, and human development. Guided by this year’s theme of “People. Business. Prosperity.” ABAC Canada member, Joseph Fung, Managing Partner of Saltage Ventures, led the sustainability working groups priority of securing food sustainability and responsible natural resource management. As the Vice Chair to APEC’s Policy Partnership on Food Security, Joseph F. outlined how to better facilitate public-private partnerships to achieve regional food security goals.

On April 25th, 2024, Saltagen Ventures, Consulate General of Canada in Hong Kong & Macao | Consulat général du Canada à Hong Kong et Macao, and ABAC Canada co-hosted a networking luncheon event at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong to congratulate everyone on the resounding success of the APEC Business Advisory Council's second meeting for 2024 in Hong Kong. 

The event aims to provide attendees an extended opportunity to delve deeper into how APEC economies could utilize our regional ecosystems for technology scaling. Mr. Joseph F. moderated a panel discussion with Mr. Emmanuel Hui, CEO of Pebble Accelerator, Ms. Kelly Chao, Head of Operations at Intact Lab HK, and Dr. Miles Wen, Founder & CEO of Fano Labs. They discussed the key challenges faced by companies when expanding into other economies and shared valuable tips for effective scaling through regional cooperation.

Peru welcomed our Managing Partner, Mr Joseph F., and representatives from 21 economies at the Lima Convention Center for the first APEC Senior Officials Meetings (SOM1) of 2024. 

Joseph participated in the Policy Partnership for Food Security (PPFS) plenary in his capacity as Vice Chair of the PPFS in the APEC Business Advisory Council and spoke to delegates and private sector representatives regarding the importance of public-private partnerships to improve food security across the APEC region.
