Sana Biotechnology, Inc., a biotechnology company, focuses on utilizing engineered cells as medicines. Its product candidates include SG295 and SG242 that target CD19+ cancer cells, including non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and acute lymphoblastic leukemia; SG221 and SG239 for the treatment of multiple myeloma; and SG328 for ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency. It also develops SG418 for sickle cell disease and beta-thalassemia; SC291, a CD19 allogeneic T cell therapy; SC255 for multiple myeloma; SC451 for type I diabetes mellitus; and SC379 for secondary progressive multiple sclerosis, Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease, and Huntington's disease. Sana Biotechnology, Inc. was formerly known as FD Therapeutics, Inc. and changed its name to Sana Biotechnology, Inc. in September 2018. The company was incorporated in 2018 and is headquartered in Seattle, Washington.

Sana Biotechnology is focused on utilizing engineered cells as medicines for patients. The ability to modify genes and use cells as medicines will be one of the most important advances in healthcare over the next several decades.  Sana is building differentiated capabilities across the spectrum of cell and gene therapy. 
 
Three aspirations drive Sana as we look to discover treatments for patients with poor outcomes or currently untreatable diseases. The first is the ability to repair and control the genes in any cell in the body.  We are advancing novel delivery technologies with the goal of being able to deliver any payload to any cell in a specific, predictable, and repeatable manner, paving the way for next-generation in vivo gene therapy. Next is the ability to differentiate pluripotent stem cells ex vivo into immune-cloaked functional cells with the aspiration of being able to replace any missing or damaged cells in the body. Last is a belief we can enable broader access to our therapies through focusing on scalable manufacturing solutions, the cost of manufacturing, and aligning with key stakeholders.
 
Sana launched in early 2019 and has over 350 employees in Seattle, Cambridge, and South San Francisco. Sana was founded with the long view – bringing together great people and the best technologies to deliver on the challenging promise of using engineered cells to meaningfully change the outcome of many human diseases.

Over 8 million people worldwide are currently living with type 1 diabetes. At Sana, we’re advancing our hypoimmune platform for the potential treatment of this and other serious diseases.

We are excited to share the publication of preclinical diabetes data in Cell Stem Cell. 
 
Published data demonstrate that transplantation of Sana’s engineered allogeneic, hypoimmune (HIP)-modified pancreatic islet cells provided lasting glucose control, enabling the achievement of exogenous insulin independence without immunosuppression in a diabetic non-human primate (NHP). 
 
These data underscore the diverse and vast potential of the hypoimmune platform to transform the diabetes treatment landscape and beyond.
