The Hong Kong LegCo has proposed the “Protection of Critical Infrastructure (Computer System) Bill” to enhance the cybersecurity of critical infrastructure, which is expected to take effect by 2026. This legislation aims to safeguard essential services from cyber threats, ensuring the stability and security of the society. Key Highlights: 🔒 Establishment of a new Commissioner’s Office with extensive investigative powers. 🔒 Mandatory incident reporting within 2 hours for serious incidents. 🔒 Annual risk assessments and bi-annual security audits for Critical Infrastructure Operators (CIOs). This move aligns Hong Kong with global cybersecurity standards, joining regions like the US, the EU, and Singapore in fortifying critical infrastructure against cyber-attacks.
