Amazing to see that Europe spends relatively more on drugs than the US – who would have thought? Also US spending over 2x more on healthcare administration is worthy of consideration – we are inefficient and over-staffed – primarily across our 5K hospitals that have dominated their local markets with little reason to cut back. The focus on procedures vs long-term care also is very cultural, Europeans want to retire in comfort. In the U.S. we just want to keep working but we need a lot more procedures to keep us grinding. US productivity per capita is >2x European (that chart is next to come).
