SCG announced its operating results for FY2023, demonstrating robustness and resilience despite a decrease in sales due to the global economic slowdown. SCG revealed plans to accelerate its business in 2024, ready to tackle all challenges and aggressively pursue green businesses aimed at fostering growth alongside a net zero society. With an investment budget of 40,000 MB, SCG is pushing for green innovations, advancing clean energy, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. SCG has exported Low Carbon Cement to the US market. Long Son Petrochemicals Complex in Vietnam plans to feed high-quality polymer innovations to the global market. SCG is marking its presence in Saudi Arabia, connecting global trade. SCG is moving forward with a business structure transformation to enhance agility, resilience, and extensive growth. 

Thammasak Sethaudom, President and CEO of SCG, said, “SCG’s operating results for FY2023 remained robust, despite the impact of the global economic downturn, including slowdowns in China and ASEAN. The petrochemical market was weak, and the demand for cement declined. The Revenue from Sales was 499,646 MB, a decrease of 12% y-o-y. The primary reason for this decline was the downturn in chemical product prices and the exclusion from SCG Logistics Sales. The profit was 25,915 MB, an increase of 21% y-o-y. This increase was mainly due to the profit from the fair value adjustment of investments in the first half of 2023.

In Q4/2023, SCG reported Revenue from Sales of 120,618 MB, marking a decrease of 4% q-o-q. This decline was due to lower sales volumes in Chemicals Business and Cement-Building Materials Business. Operating profit, excluding extra items, was 502 MB. However, Loss for the Period stood at 1,134 MB due to the cement asset impairment in Myanmar and Long Son Petrochemicals Complex performance, which was mainly fixed cost, ending the year 2023 with a cash balance of 68,000 MB.

Thammasak concluded, “The Thai economy is showing good signs of recovery, presenting great opportunities for further growth. This can be accelerated by pushing for the development of infrastructure projects, along with expedited budget disbursement by the government and facilitating investment to attract foreign capital. These efforts will help propel the Thai economy forward and enhance its competitiveness. Furthermore, promoting business operations in line with ESG principles, which are widely recognized by global investors, will foster long-term growth. Recently, SCG was ranked No. 1 in the ESG Industry Top Rated out of 125 companies in the global Industrial Conglomerate group by Morningstar Sustainalytics. This reflects the company’s strong growth, coupled with fostering a sustainable society and environment. This achievement is the result of operating under the ESG 4 Plus strategy (Net Zero – Go Green – Reduce Inequality – Enhance Collaboration Plus Trust through Transparency).”

SCG, a global leader in sustainability, has been recognized as the ESG Industry Top Rated 2024 by Morningstar Sustainalytics, securing the No.1 position out of 125 companies in the Industrial Conglomerate category worldwide as of 17 January 2024. This ranking underscores SCG’s outstanding performance in global sustainability, driven by innovations and green solutions aligned with the ESG 4 Plus strategy (Net Zero – Go Green – Reduce Inequality – Embrace Collaboration Plus Trust and Transparency.)

SCG has established a target to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This ambitious goal is part of its commitment to mitigate the impacts of the global boiling crisis, facilitated by the accelerated development of innovations and solutions tailored to global megatrends. Sukabumi, January 22, 2024 - The quality of clean water in Indonesia in 2022 scored 53.88, still below the target of 55.03 set by the Environmental Quality Index (IKLH). One area facing clean water issues is Sirnaresmi Village, Sukabumi, due to the exposure of activities from a nearby lime factory and ineffective household waste management. Therefore, Sunda Galih, a university student at the Institut Pertanian Bogor and recipient of the 2023 SCG Sharing the Dream Scholarship, initiated the E-Mission program for the community in Sirnaresmi Village. 
 
The E-Mission program transforms used cooking oil from household consumption into aromatherapy candles that can serve as a local economic commodity. The proceeds from candle sales are then used to purchase water filter equipment for the village. This program adopts the ESG 4 Plus approach by SCG, a leading ASEAN company with three business lines: Cement and Building Materials, Chemicals, and Packaging. ESG 4 Plus is the operational foundation of SCG personalized from the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) framework, covering four main commitments: achieving zero carbon emissions by 2050 (Set Net Zero), creating a green industry (Go Green), reducing social inequality (Reduce Inequality), and embracing collaboration with various stakeholders (Embrace Collaboration), with justice and transparency in every aspect. 
 
“We choose to process used cooking oil because the materials are easily accessible directly from the community. The process also does not leave additional liquid waste, if we decide to produce soaps for example, which minimizes the risk of water pollution. Most importantly, it can be easily applied as a home-based micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME). Being an SCG Scholar (SCG Sharing the Dream scholarship recipient) has made us more environmentally conscious and driven to create innovative solutions with sustainability value," explained Sunda Galih.
 
President Director of PT SCG Indonesia, Chakkapong Yingwattanathaworn, explained, “Through E-Mission and other community projects by SCG Scholars, SCG is committed to supporting young people in initiating changes in their immediate environment. We believe that through this step, they can directly experience the social dynamics of the community, then identify existing problems and find potential that can be developed from there. With direct involvement, young people can develop a sense of ownership and responsibility, creating sustainable changes and long-term impacts on their environment, in line with the commitment of ESG 4 Plus.” 

SCG provides full support for this program, including funding, program implementation assistance, and resource optimization. Through this collaboration, SCG, together with scholarship recipients, presents sustainable solutions to maintain water cleanliness and create positive impacts for the Sukabumi community.

Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue expressed his expectations that in the coming time, the National Inspection Committee (NIC), ministries, central agencies, and Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province should continue to support LSP to complete the state-level acceptance and review all aspects for early smooth commercial operation.

The Erawan Group and SCG Cleanergy Join Forces to Promote Green Renewable Energy in the Hospitality Industry – Boosting Technological Solutions for Energy Management, Supporting Carbon Reduction in Thai Tourism Industry

Youssef El Khomri, President (second from the left), and Woramon Inkatanuvat, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (first from the left), of The Erawan Group Public Company Limited, a leading investor and developer of hotel businesses in Thailand, the Philippines, and Japan, have signed a memorandum of understanding with Attapong Sathitmanotham, Chief Executive Officer (third from the left), and Apichet Nuytoom, Vice President of Operations (fourth from the left), of SCG Cleanergy Company Limited. As a provider of comprehensive solar energy solutions for industrial estates, hotels, hospitals, and shopping malls, SCG Cleanergy aims to collaborate on implementing smart energy technologies in hotels and resorts under “The Erawan Group,” enhancing the use of green renewable energy in the tourism and hotel industry.

Through this collaboration, The Erawan Group and SCG Cleanergy will jointly explore and plan the utilization of electric power generated from solar energy, employing Smart Grid technology managed by the SCG Cleanergy Platform. This initiative, set to be implemented across The Erawan Group’s hotels and resorts, aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and supports Thailand’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2065.

SCGC Subsidiaries Win 10 Awards for Disease-Free, Safe Workplaces Promoting Physical and Mental Well-being in 2023 from Ministry of Public Health, Highlighting Safe Factory Alongside Sustainable Environmental and Social Stewardship

Recently, 10 companies within the SCG Chemicals group, or SCGC, have won the national-level Gold Shield Award from Thailand's Ministry of Public Health. This award was presented by three departments: the Department of Disease Control, the Department of Health, and the Department of Mental Health. It is part of the 2023 “Disease-Free, Safe Workplace, Healthy Body and Mind” project. The evaluation criteria were based on assessing the factories in terms of their occupational health services and environmental medical services. This initiative aims to ensure that the country's working-age population maintains both physical and mental health, and enjoys a positive working environment. This is crucial for national development, aligning with the concept, “World Changes, People Adapt, Elevating Workers’ Health.” This achievement reflects SCGC's commitment to being a leading integrated chemical player in the region, focusing on business growth alongside sustainability. SCGC operates under corporate governance principles, adhering to environmental, social, and employee care standards in line with ESG guidelines. The award was presented by Dr. Thongchai Keeratihattayakorn, Director-General of the Department of Disease Control.

The Ministry of Public Health awards these to workplaces as models for other organizations. Additionally, this initiative aims to promote safety among the working population from occupational and environmental hazards, as well as to ensure good mental health.
