As our 2024 harvest winds down to its final days, we send a heartfelt THANK YOU to our viticulture and winemaking teams, and our first-rate custom crush clients, for the great care, attention and cooperation they put into harvest every year! While many regions finished harvest a week or more ago, the Monterey appellation is known for having the longest growing season in the state and that holds true in 2024. Quality across the board has been excellent, with Pinot Noir a standout in quality this vintage with ripe fruit profiles, balanced acidity and complex flavors. Cabernet Sauvignon, which we'll complete picking today, is also showing tremendous potential, with dark color and gorgeous flavors. Yields were down in the Monterey AVA and that seems to be the case across the state. All harvests have their challenges and 2024 is no exception. With a late-season heat wave, our winery team had a lot of fruit ready to come in all at once. Making sure that everyone's needs are balanced is the key to a successful harvest and happy clientele. We’re thrilled to announce that The Wine Society has generously awarded us a £6,000 grant to support our Bee Friendly Farming Certification through Pollinator Partnership ! This funding supports the planting of 820 bee friendly plants to create a new hedgerow habitat and provides seeds to plant 1.7 acres of flowering cover crops in Spring 2025. The plants will be chosen in collaboration with the Wild Farm Alliance for their bee-supporting properties and compatibility with our local climate and ecosystem At Scheid Family Wines, we understand the critical role bees play in our ecosystem. Harvest is here! Starting late Wednesday night and into yesterday's early morning hours, the first Sauvignon Blanc grapes from our estate San Lucas Vineyard were harvested and brought into our winery for processing. With warmer temperatures compared to the previous two cool seasons, we're starting about 4 weeks earlier than last year.
