We aim to discover companies that will grow rapidly and tackle the most important global challenges.

It’s been a fantastic year for the Science Angel Syndicate team and portfolio companies. We wanted to take a minute to highlight some key achievements, ahead of the launch of some exciting news in January (further updates to follow in the New Year).

Since inception in Sep 2021 we have reviewed >500 companies, made 18 investments into 14 companies and deployed £6m.

Deals - In 2023, we completed 7 investment deals into QV Bioelectronics, EnsiliTech, OSSTEC, Halo Therapeutics, Albotherm, including follow-on investment into MitoRx Therapeutics and ARGONAUTE RNA LIMITED.

Portfolio Highlights - Our entire portfolio has made significant strides in the last year at a time when macro conditions were challenging. We will be releasing a portfolio summary in the new year to highlight the progress these companies have made!

Team - we’ve expanded our investment team, welcoming Curran Kalha, Ph.D. earlier this year.

Community - Bringing together the Science Angel Syndicate community at our pitch events, summer party and most recently, at our Christmas Party in London in December. It was a fantastic opportunity to bring together our team, founders, investors and partners, showcase some exceptional investment opportunities in the pipeline, celebrate our milestones so far and look towards an exciting 2024.

We have exciting plans in place for 2024 that will see us rapidly scaling our team and investment capabilities. Watch this space for exciting updates in Jan.

Dr. Thomas Fudge and Llŷr Anwyl were the first entrepreneurs we backed at Science Angel Syndicate in 2021 when we made an investment into WASE LIMITED who had a vision for the valorisation of wastewater in SME industries.

Excited is an understatement! To see this company announce its latest £8.5m round with coverage in TechCrunch is great validation of the early bet we placed. 

Thomas and Llyr have brought on some exceptional investors on board as part of this round Extantia, ENGIE New Ventures, Hitachi Ventures and WEPA Ventures. Our new rebranded Syndicate Empirical Ventures also participated in this round alongside follow-on from Elbow Beach Capital.

Of course this is still just the beginning of the development of this technology and we stand by ready to continue supporting WASE.

It also marked the start of an important relationship with Elbow Beach Capital who made their first fund investment into WASE LIMITED. Working alongside Jonathan Pollock at the board level to support the development of WASE further highlighted the importance of having the right investors on your captable.

A fantastic day representing Spin Up Science and Science Angel Syndicate at #BioCap yesterday at Alderley Park!

It was great showcase of some of the exceptional life science companies in the North, with insightful founder journeys and investor panels, as well as a sneak peak into exciting opportunities in the pipeline. I had fantastic time chatting to founders and catching up with connections old and new. Thanks Stella James, Dave Holmes and the rest of the Bionow team for putting together such a wonderful event!
