We are thrilled to announce that ONE Recognition, the third vessel in our new SAVER 7,000TEU series, was delivered January 29th to Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard.

Captain Sarang Amte and Chief Engineer Grygoriy Khlyebik are onboard, in charge of the vessel and departed for her maiden voyage on January 30th.

Sincere thanks to everyone involved! This achievement wouldn't have been possible without the incredible efforts of our team.

Introducing Thembelihle Junith Mthalane, an Engineering Cadet from South Africa. Her fascination with machinery, coupled with a lifelong passion for engineering, has been the driving force behind her journey.

Thembelihle's path as a female seafarer has been marked by challenges, but her unwavering determination and commitment to success propel her forward. She has honed her technical and environmental skills through her Seaspan training, along with comprehensive training from CDI and CBT -a crucial step towards her ambition of becoming a Chief Engineer.

“Being trained under Seaspan, a company that supports the development of female seafarers in a male-dominated industry, means a lot to me. I hope to inspire the youth, especially females, to pursue careers at sea so they too may reach for the stars. It always seems impossible until you try it.”

We are proud to to be a part of the Safetytech Accelerator Cargo Fire & Loss Innovation Initiative (CFLII) alongside our valued partners.

CFLII brings together industry leaders, technology innovators, and maritime stakeholders to advance technologies that mitigate large-scale cargo fire, loss, and damage at sea.

The initiative recently announced ScanReach - Onboard Wireless Connectivity has been selected for the evaluation of its innovative technology aimed at ‘early-stage fire detection in cargo holds of containerships’.  Their unique sensor mesh technology enables wireless data transfer and connectivity in complex steel environments enhancing safety on vessels.

By joining the pledge, we join like minded partners and continue our dedication to eliminating single-use plastics onboard vessels and fostering sustainable practices across the maritime sector. 

Seaspan has set a target of a 5% annual reduction in plastic waste discharged from our ships.  In 2022, we achieved a 24.5% decrease in plastic waste output compared to 2021.

Our actions to reduce and mitigate plastic waste include:
*  Reducing the dependency on plastic bottled drinking water by supplying water filtration units onboard
*  Providing personal stainless steel water bottles for crew members
*  Vetting new vendors for their policy on plastic packaging materials 
*  Encouraging crew members to return plastic packaging materials to suppliers for recycling
