What better way to start the year than with adding great new people to our team. Welcome on board Jakub and Lukas. We are thrilled to have you both. 🚀

Jakub has joined us as Data Scientist. For the last five years, he worked at the IT Service Provider Qimia, where he handled various projects involving data science, machine learning and data engineering. Having travelled for a bit, Jakub has now settled in Hamburg to combine two things he feels passionate about: data and tackling the climate crisis. 

Lukas is our new frontend developer. Previously, he worked at quirion, a digital asset manager, where he was responsible for developing internal design systems and managing the corporate component library. At shipzero, he will contribute to ensuring a smooth user experience for our customers and continuously improve the design of our platform.     

Jakub and Lukas decided to join shipzero because they find the combination of working with logistics and sustainability very relevant and we’re more than happy to have them. 🤗

The #CSRD replaces the Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD) and goes into effect from 1st of January 2024 onwards. Which companies need to start acting and how can they prepare? 🤔

As off next year, the first phase of phasing in the CSRD is kicking off, meaning that large companies ­­­operating in the EU have to start disclosing information on what they see as the risks and opportunities arising from social and environmental issues, and on the impact of their activities on people and the environment. 

During this first phase, large companies are defined as those that fulfill two of the three following criteria: 

• € 20 million balance sheet
• € 40 million net turnover
• average number of 500+ employees

As our timeline shows, this criteria changes over time, gradually including more companies, such as SME’s and non-EU entities with subsidiaries in the EU.

How to start preparing for the CSRD? Here are a few key steps to take:

✓ Stay informed about updates and developments of the CSRD.
✓ Ensure that management and key stakeholders are aware of major CSRD aspects, timelines, and responsibilities.
✓ Effectuate the double materiality assessment to understand the required reporting scope.
✓ Identify information sources for all relevant reporting sections.
✓ Consider using a CO2 emissions management platform to help you quantify and report your relevant sustainability information. 
✓ Implement sustainability target setting, KPIs and evaluation processes.
