The full-scale LIFE Habitat test article stands at 20.5 feet tall and is constructed of high-strength "softgoods" materials with a diameter of 27 feet when pressurized. It's supported by a 100,000 lb test core and stand for the upcoming ultimate burst pressure test.

Our team is finalizing preparations for the first ever, full-scale ultimate burst pressure test of our LIFE habitat space station technology this month at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. The test article has two metallic blanking plates to support the placement of windows and are specifically designed for maximum performance with minimum impact to the pressure shell.

Sierra Space has secured a contract by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for the 10-year Lunar Architecture (LunA-10) capability study. This study intends to integrating oxygen extraction, electrical storage and hydrogen-oxygen engine technology into an architecture on the surface of the moon.

This research and development initiative will make advanced lunar missions possible and help shape the future of extended space exploration for the benefit of humanity.

Sierra Space has already demonstrated its capabilities in carbothermal oxygen production from lunar soil, or “regolith.” In April, #NASA achieved a groundbreaking milestone by successfully extracting oxygen from simulated lunar soil using a carbothermal reactor developed in-house by Sierra Space. This breakthrough occurred within a thermal vacuum chamber simulating the lunar environment, setting the stage for future resource utilization on the moon, known as in-situ resource utilization (ISRU).

Rigorous environmental testing has begun for the Shooting Star cargo module - Dream Chaser's cargo companion - which recently arrived at NASA's Neil Armstrong Test Facility in Ohio. The spacecraft is undergoing a comprehensive testing campaign to ensure it can withstand the rigor of launch and the challenging conditions of space as it's readied for its inaugural mission to resupply the International Space Station.

Further establishing the Sierra Space Flight Director Office, Kris Field joins us with 10 years of space flight operations experience at #NASA Johnson Space Center. Field was most recently an Exploration Group Lead for NASA’s Artemis program. Field will lead flight controllers inside and outside the Mission Control Center (MCC), sharing responsibility and authority for Dream Chaser during real-time flight operations from pre-launch through post-landing with our team of Sierra Space Flight Directors.

It is supported by a100,000 lb test core and stand for the Ultimate Burst Pressure test.

Sierra Space is gearing up for the first-ever, full-scale Ultimate Burst Pressure (UBP) test of its LIFE expandable space station module. Today, the team at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center is utilizing the legendary #NASA KAMAG transporter tractor to deliver the test article to a secure location on Redstone Arsenal. Setup and calibration of sensors and cameras, alongside operational run-throughs, are next steps in preparing for the full-scale UBP test next month.

Over its 12-year mission, NASA’s Lucy spacecraft - built by Lockheed Martin Space - will explore a record-breaking number of asteroids between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter and will fly by Earth three times, making it the first spacecraft to return to the vicinity of Earth from the outer solar system. Our team has supported Lockheed Martin as a spacecraft subsystems and components supplier for more than 20 years and we are proud to help keep Lucy “cool” during its journey by using our passive thermal control louver mechanisms.

While working in the Shooting Star cargo module, protection panels are used by team members to help protect the underlying structure. The cargo module will help NASA send critical science, food, and cargo to the International Space Station.

Our team is preparing for the biggest-ever "burst test" of our inflatable, expandable space station technology. 

This unprecedented test, scheduled for December 2023 at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., will be a significant milestone in the development of the world's first commercial space station, Orbital Reef in co-development with BLUE ORIGIN.

The Ultimate Burst Pressure test is expected to provide Sierra Space and the Orbital Reef program team with critical data in support of NASA's softgoods certification guidelines.
