Using this Leap Day to look forward to our workforce training programs with Big Bend Community College and Columbia Basin Technical Skills Center, which is part of the Moses Lake School District. The foundation of a robust domestic #battery #supplychain rests on developing innovative #technologies and developing a strong pipeline of skilled workers. We’re proud to be a part of the national push to invest in U.S.-based, #cleanenergy  manufacturing jobs. Our VP of Operations, Chris Dougher, captures this notion perfectly:

It's not every day you get to moderate a roundtable discussion with a cabinet secretary, governor, and senator. What an honor to facilitate a wide-ranging conversation with Secretary Jennifer Granholm, Governor Jay Inslee, and Senator Maria Cantwell at Sila Nanotechnologies Inc.'s factory in Moses Lake, WA.

The discussion focused on how the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is accelerating investments and workforce development in the domestic battery supply chain, including Sila's $100M award from the Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains, U.S. Department of Energy, which enabled Sila's workforce training partnerships with Big Bend Community College and the Columbia Basin Technical Skills Center. Thanks to Big Bend President Sara Thompson Tweedy for your partnership.

The conversation also focused on how to accelerate the build out of new #transmission, which is necessary to support domestic manufacturing. Thanks to Richard Bustamante with Bonneville Power Administration and Richard Wallen with Grant County Public Utility District for working to develop solutions.

To achieve our clean energy future, we’re helping to train a new energy workforce today. We're excited and proud to officially announce a partnership with Big Bend Community College and Columbia Basin Technical Skills Center, which is part of the Moses Lake School District, to develop a first-of-its-kind education program geared towards training the future battery workforce. 

The program is focused on providing hands-on training for technical, mechanical, electrical, and software skills that will support students' success in careers related to manufacturing and material science, including at our silicon anode manufacturing plant. We’re honored to also be able to provide each school with one million dollars to support the cost of equipment and curriculum development.

We want to thank the President of Big Bend Community College Dr. Sara Thompson Tweedy, the Superintendent for Moses Lake School District Monty Sabin, and the Director of the Columbia Basin Technical Skills Center Christine Armstrong and their teams for an amazing partnership in moving this forward. We’d also like to thank Governor Jay Inslee, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Jennifer Granholm, and Senator Maria Cantwell for sharing in our news and for their participation in a community roundtable highlighting the strides and needs of the Moses Lake community as it develops into a hub for clean energy manufacturing.

We’re closing this exciting week with a look back at a panel that took place on Monday entitled, “Supercharging the New Clean Energy Economy with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).” Our Co-founder and CTO Gleb Yushin 🇺🇦 was joined by David Crane, the Under Secretary for the Office of Infrastructure, U.S. Department of Energy, Giulia Siccardo the Director of the Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains, U.S. Department of Energy,  Adam Rauwerdink the Senior Vice President of Boston Metal, and the moderator Jillian Noel from Piva Capital for a discussion on how collaboration between the public and private sectors can power the advancement of clean energy technologies.
