SINTX significantly strengthens its antipathogenic patent portfolio with six United States patent within the last year.

Another patent has been issued to SINTX!  This one is titled "Antipathogenic Face Mask" and is US patent number 11,857,001.  The patent stipulates the use of a face mask that contains 1 to 15 wt.% silicon nitride powder and is capable of inactivating a human virus on contact.

US patent 11,850,214 was issued to SINTX on December 26, 2023. The patent is titled “Antiviral Compositions and Devices and Methods of Use Thereof.” This is a broader based patent than US 11,844,344. It claims that silicon nitride when combined with another material at a composition range of 1 to 15 wt.% of a silicon nitride material (e.g., α- and ß-Si3N4, SiYAlON, ß-SiYALON, SiYON, or SiAlON), is effective in inactivating human viruses within 30 minutes. This antiviral composition can comprise a slurry, suspension, spray, gel, paint, or toothpaste. This composition can be applied to any number of medical devices or personal protective equipment.

SINTX is pleased to report that the 4th US patent this year has been granted to the company. The patent (US#11,844,344) is titled Systems and Methods for Rapid Inactivation of SARS-COV-2 by Silicon Nitride and Aluminum Nitride. This patent provides broad coverage for medical-related and personal protective equipment against essentially all human pathogenic viruses. 

The patent specifically claims that 1 wt.% to 30 wt.% compositions of silicon nitride powder with a particle size between 0.6 µm and 5 µm are effective in inactivating human viruses when incorporated into an object or as a coating on an object such as a protective gown, a body cover, a head cover, a shoe cover, a face mask, a face shield, an eye protector, gloves, a surgical gown, a surgical drape, a cubicle curtain, a face mask filter, a respirator filter, an air filtration filter, an air ventilation filter, a knob, a handle, a railing, a bed frame, a bed tray, a table, a chair, an equipment rack, a cabinet, or a cart. The silicon nitride composition may comprise a slurry, suspension, gel, paint, toothpaste, and may be sprayed onto the surface of the object.

The Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) Regional Hub – Mid-Atlantic has announced that it has selected a collaboration between SINTX, Moog, Inc., and Cornell University to receive funding for a proposal on “Additive Manufacturing of Advanced Ceramics.” The team is working on an AF Hub phase II program to develop a new, additively manufactured monolithic ceramic combustor to replace an expensive, long lead time refractory metal component. Silicon Nitride is an ideal material for the component because of its thermal and mechanical properties. The new combustor is to be used in an ESPA class satellite and designed specifically to work with the new AF propellent, ASCENT.

SINTX VP of R&D, Dr. Ryan Bock, attended Formnext in Frankfurt, Germany this week. Formnext is the largest gathering of additive manufacturing, rapid prototyping, and 3D printing professionals in the world. While there, Dr. Bock was able to meet with a wide variety of current and potential new suppliers, partners, and customers related to SINTX’s specialties in ceramic and polymer composite additive manufacturing and prototyping.

We're proud of this accomplishment and are celebrating our first long term supply agreement in the aerospace industry.
