Solarea Bio is a clinical-stage biotechnology company in Cambridge, MA developing plant-based microbial solutions to some of the world’s largest health problems.  Solarea was founded in 2017 by a group of scientists and entrepreneurs eager to radically alter our understanding of the human microbiome and utilize its power to improve human health. The Solarea breakthrough came from the combined efforts of the company’s co-founders who established a link between the discovery of an untapped source of microorganisms with probiotic potential in healthy foods, and their applications in inflammatory processes including the gut-musculoskeletal axis. Using powerful genomic and bioinformatic tools, Solarea is mining its novel microbial strain collection to identify synergistic combinations of microbes and prebiotic plant fibers to develop solutions for patients suffering from inflammatory processes.

Today we announce the Beta-launch of our first Medical Food product, Bondia, for the dietary management of postmenopausal bone health. Bondia is currently undergoing a large clinical trial in early postmenopausal women, with expected readouts later this summer. The Bondia Medical Food will be commericalized under Solarea's newly unveiled consumer brand, Journa. This is a huge milestone for the Solarea team as we gear up for an anticipated full product launch in September 2024. Stay tuned for more!

Solarea Bio is a biotech company that develops microbial therapeutics aimed to treat indications derived from chronic inflammation to aid human health.

It specializes in the research and development of therapeutics that are derived from natural sources and are aimed to treat indications derived from chronic inflammation, enabling hospitals to provide medicinal drugs for improved quality of life. The company generates a large database of the complete genomic sequences of microbes derived from healthy foods. Using computational approaches, Solarea generates synergistic combinations of bacteria, fungi, and prebiotic fibers with powerful anti-inflammatory capabilities to address specific chronic conditions that afflict large numbers of people. These have been validated in-vitro and in-vivo in preclinical mouse models. Its first application aims to aid in the dietary management of the metabolic processes that cause osteopenia and osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. This provides a nature-based solution to improving women’s health and well-being.

The Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company was established in 2017 by Eric Schott, Gerardo Toledo, and Jillian DeWalt.
