From lab to life: The development of next-generation hearing technology relies on training devices in the realistic, complex situations that users encounter on a daily basis. Collecting such diverse data is challenging and cannot be replicated in a traditional lab setting. Enter our User Behavior Technology team, who recently took our hearing aids on a field trip, swapping the lab for a city tour of Zurich, Switzerland. The aim? To integrate real-world insights into our development and testing processes by gathering audio and motion data in various environments and activities - from different modes of transportation, to capturing conversations during walks or coffee breaks. The desired outcome is to refine our audio and motion classification systems using this realistic data, preparing our devices for the real-world challenges faced by our users. Everyday life is full of surprises, necessitating the training and testing of our devices in different scenarios to ensure they work optimally when consumers need them most. Last week took me to India where I had a fantastic time meeting our colleagues from our Hearing Instruments, Cochlear Implants and Consumer Hearing businesses in Mumbai and Bangalore. It was a great chance to get to know more about our customers and consumers in the Indian market. I’m truly impressed by our dedicated teams in India. Their passion and commitment shine through, and it’s no surprise that we hold a leading position in the hearing instruments business – especially in the pediatric segment. Every fifth person is struggling with a mental health challenge right now. And every second person will experience mental health issues at some point in their working life. At Sonova, we believe that mental health is just as important as physical health. We also believe that leaders can play a key role in recognizing mental health challenges early on. That’s why a little over a year ago we introduced Mental Health First Aid trainings as a standard offering for all our people leaders. To date, over 600 people leaders have completed the training, equipping them with essential tools to support their teams (see slider for more information). Guillermo Salcedo leads our new operations facility in Mexicali, Mexico. After training as an industrial engineer, Guillermo S. made a conscious choice to work in health technology. He finds it rewarding to be part of an industry where the products have a positive impact on people’s lives. Guillermo makes sure every new joiner in Mexicali watches customer experience videos on their first day on the job so they appreciate the outcome of their work. “It brings us closer to the customer knowing that a person will use what we make here,” he says.
