How can we use #nanotechnology to tackle antibiotic resistance? One approach is to use nanoparticles as reaction chambers, or #nanoreactors, to convert products released by bacteria into bactericidal agents to locally kill bacteria cells.
Michael Potter, PhD, Molly Stevens and team carefully designed semi-permeable nanoreactors loaded with antimicrobial enzymes to convert glucose into hypochlorite, a potent antimicrobial.
#SPARTA was used to demonstrate the semi-permeability of their nanoreactors on the single particle scale, as well as for detailed characterisation of the carrier chemistry.
