Despite the slow progress in #sepsis #biomarker innovations, encouraging evidence is emerging. As technology and understanding of sepsis pathophysiology continue to evolve, biomarkers like sTREM-1, bio-adrenomedullin, or monocyte expression of HLA-DR are showing very promising associations with particular pathophysiological mechanisms.

A precise assessment of kidney function is crucial in modern intensive care. Traditional methods like Serum Creatinine (SCr) and estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) have limitations, especially in acute kidney injury (AKI) diagnosis. 

Proenkephalin A 119-159 (#penKid), an innovative biomarker, offers a promising alternative. Unlike traditional markers, penKid is unaffected by gender, muscle mass, or inflammation and correlates well with measured GFR. Scientists have developed a new eGFR formula based on penKid, creatinine, and age, providing superior accuracy. Early identification of subclinical AKI and recovery monitoring make penKid a promising tool for personalized therapy planning.

Congratulations to our partner company Adrenomed AG for receiving their FDA fast-track designation to #Enibarcimab. In this precision medicine approach addressing septic shock patients, #SphingoTec’s biomarker bioactive adrenomedullin (bio-ADM) has been included in the biomarker-guided Phase II clinical trial to support enrichment of the patient population benefitting most from Enibarcimab.
