”Viime lokakuussa Helen ja suomalainen pienydinvoimalaa kehittävä startup-yhtiö Steady Energy kertoivat tähtäävänsä ydinlämpötuotannon käynnistämiseen Suomessa. Helenin mukaan suunnitelmissa on jopa kymmenen teholtaan 50 megawatin reaktoriyksikön hankkiminen Steady Energyltä…

Pienydinreaktorien osalta Mykkänen näkee mahdollisuuksia sekä sähkön että lämmön tuotannossa. Kenties kiinnostavimpana pienydinvoiman käyttökohteena hän pitää kaukolämpöä, mikä auttaisi kaupunkeja pääsemään eroon polttamisesta lämmöntuotannossa ja vähentäisi päästöjä.

Hallitus pyrkii vauhdittamaan ydinvoiman lisärakentamista valmisteilla olevalla ydinenergialain kokonaisuudistuksella.
Mykkäsen mukaan uusi ydinenergialaki vahvistaa Suomen asemaa houkuttelevana ydinvoiman rakentamispaikkana, etenkin pienten SMR-voimaloiden sarjakäyttöönoton kannalta.

”Pyrimme vapauttamaan pienet modulaariset reaktorit nykyisestä raskaasta eduskunnan kautta kulkevasta periaatelupaprosessista.”

Pienydinvoima-asiat ottivat taas askeleen eteenpäin.

Kuopion Energia on selvittänyt mahdollisia pienydinvoiman sijoituspaikkoja. Soveltuvia paikkoja on useita. 

Steady Energyllä on Kuopion Energian kanssa aiesopimus viiden yksikön rakentamisesta.

Suomea koettelee laaja korkeapaineen sääalue, jonka seurauksena saamme osamme kauniista mutta erittäin kylmästä säärintamasta. Kun samaan aikaan tarvitsemme merkittävän määrän sähköä lämmitykseen, valaistukseen, teollisuuden prosesseihin ja korkeapaineen seurauksena tuulisähköä on rajoitetusti saatavilla, on Fingrid Oyj oikeutetusti kehottanut kansalaisia ja teollisuutta rajoittamaan sähkön kulutusta.

Säätilat ja ilmanpaineet tulevat jatkossakin olemaan Suomen talviolosuhteiden normaalia vaihtelua, on syytä keskittyä toteuttamaan ratkaisuja, joilla voidaan vähentää sähkön piikkitarvetta, etenkin talvisin ja turvata lämmön huoltovarmuutta. 

Suomalainen pienydinvoimaa kaukolämpöön toteuttava Steady Energy tekee määrätietoista työtä toteuttaakseen VTT’n kehittämän LDR50 pienydinvoimakonseptin tuotantoon ja kaukolämpöyhtiöiden käyttöön.
