Green Week 2024 has officially begun! We kicked off the week with ‘The Big Green SBFE Question Hour’ where our experts answered thoughtful, in-depth questions on a wide range of sustainability topics. We explored questions such as.......: How many gas emissions (GHG) did SBFE emit in 2023 across its entire value chain? What is the SBFE water reduction target for 2030 vs 2015? How many hours per year can each SBFE employee use to do volunteering? How does SBFE track and measure ethical practices in the value chain? Congratulations to Eva Suárez Sánchez who has been appointed head of our SBFE Technical Innovation Centre in Tordera, Spain, the largest research facility in our European operations. 🙌 🎉 Eva Suárez, a seasoned Chemical Engineer and Biotechnologist, boasts over two decades of experience in the industry. Her tenure with Suntory started in 2007 when she joined the company's operations department, initially focusing on demand and production planning. She then transitioned to the Engineering department as a project manager, a role she fulfilled for ten years. For the past seven years, she has led the R&D team at Suntory Beverage & Food Spain . Anti-Slavery Day is observed globally on 18 October to raise awareness about modern slavery, which affects over 49.6 million people worldwide. Modern slavery includes trafficking, sexual exploitation, forced labour, and domestic servitude, where victims are exploited for others' gain. SBFE operates in various markets and is committed to ethical practices, maintaining a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery in its supply chain. This involves avoiding suppliers involved in such practices. Our employees are encouraged to help prevent modern slavery by being vigilant for signs of exploitation among suppliers' staff, such as not taking breaks, malnourishment, untreated injuries, and high staff turnover. Employees can report any concerns to their manager, local Legal team, or via our independent Ethics and Compliance Hotline operated by Safecall. Kaizen is a term that refers to on-going or continuous improvement. The definition of kaizen comes from two Japanese words: 'kai' meaning 'change' and 'zen' meaning 'good.' Every year at Suntory we hold the ‘World Kaizen Forum’ where manufacturing teams from around the world come together to share best practice and compete to be World Kaizen Champion! The SUNTORY BEVERAGE & FOOD EUROPE finals took place earlier this month, with teams from our factories in Donnery, Suntory Beverage & Food France and Toledo, Suntory Beverage & Food Spain emerging victorious and now heading off to the final in Vietnam. At SBFE, we care for our people’s safety and mental health. This year’s theme of World Mental Health Day, organised by World Health Organization , highlights the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace. We have many programmes for our employees across the countries where we operate, here’s just a few ways that we are supporting our people: 👩⚕️ In France we operate Safeplace, which identifies if we have people at risk and how to improve the situation over time, while offering them instantaneous and anonymous free mental health professional support. 👨⚕️ In EECM-Benelux, we partnered with #OpenUp , which is an external platform providing personalised support services from certified psychologists and lifestyle experts to aid the mental-wellbeing of our people. 👂 In the UK, we worked with MIND to train our own mental health first aiders. A network of employees now form “The Listening Network” and online resources are available to all employees. 📞 In Spain, we work with Stimulus Care, psychological help program for employees and their families. Consultations can be made by phone, chat, video call or message. This service is free, anonymous, confidential and available 24/7/365. #WorldMentalHealthDay
