Good prompt = good output

Having trouble coming up with Midjourney prompts to produce incredible AI-enhanced content?

Here are 5 tips for prompts that will make content that's actually good and doesn't look like AI.

1) Keep your prompts simple

Simple isn't always less; it can help you create better work. If you're unsure about the style, keep the prompt simple. But if you know what you want, get descriptive. 

Here are some examples:

➝ Simple prompt: A dog.
➝ Descriptive prompt: A dog chasing a frisbee while running in a field. Realistic. Wide angle shot.
➝ Unnecessarily lengthy prompt: A Labradoodle dog chasing a frisbee while running in a field that’s surrounded by happy people. Make it look realistic. Generate the image as if it were taken with a wide-angle lens. Use the brand color #5D3FD3 all over.

2) Use synonyms 

AI isn't human, but it may seem like it at times. We've all experienced the frustration of giving AI a prompt and not getting the desired results. 

Imagine wanting a photo of a student studying in a library. You give Midjourney the prompt, but the output doesn't match your vision. Here's how you can switch up your wording to nail the results:

• A student studying in a building with books.
• A student studying in an open room surrounded by books.
• A young adult studying in a library.

You get the idea. 

3) Forget about grammar

Midjourney doesn't understand grammar so don't worry about being too grammatically correct.

4) Avoid negative language

AI is like a child when you tell them not to push the red button. All they think about is pushing the red button, and in most cases, that’s the “output” that comes out.

Try to avoid negative language whenever you can:

🚫[/imagine] an image of a cat. Avoid the color white.
✅[/imagine] an image of a brown cat
🚫[/imagine] a drawing of a busy street. Don’t make it look like a cartoon.
✅[/imagine] a drawing of a busy street. In the style of a sketch artist.

5) Details, details, details

As a creative, you know that all the details in a brief are crucial for making successful content. The same applies to your Midjourney prompts. Here are some to consider:
• Subject: Who or what is the main focus?
• Action: What should your subject be doing?
• Environment: Where is the graphic set? A specific location or something abstract?
• Medium: What format should it reflect (digital, photo, painting, illustration, etc.)?
Lighting: Describe the lighting (soft, ambient, overcast, studio lights, neon).
• Color: Specify the color scheme (black and white, vibrant, muted, sepia).
• Mood: Use descriptive words to convey the desired mood (happy, calm, energetic, sad, etc.).
• Composition: Define the composition (portrait, headshot, close-up, wide-angle, birds-eye view, etc.).

Nike's "Never Done Evolving" campaign used AI to crunch data from almost two decades of tennis matches and generate 130,000 games that simulate a matchup between Serena Williams early in her career and her at her 2017 level of play.

This campaign paired two of AI's biggest strengths processing tons of data and generating visuals in a fraction of the time it would take a human artist.

But AI can never replace the human brainpower it took to develop the campaign's concept.
