Gold prices are up 31% in 3 years, with no signs of slowing. At a time when interest rates are at historical highs. We call this the "US Debt Default" hedge. The famous Gretskyism: "Skate to where the puck is going, not where it has been." We often get asked by investors, what we think the performance will be next week, or next month? The only truthful answer is, I don't know. If I was smart enough to know where the puck was going, I would put 100% in that one asset and leverage 10x. By studying what Renaissance Technologies was doing, we at TCM constructed a system that allocates a globally diversified portfolio of 100+ positions in assets that are looking like they're in the 1st innings of maybe a 5 innings run. We manage risk with diversification, and over time the returns of the many small positions add up. The most important factor is our strategy has a skew of +0.66, so when the system gets it right we get significantly better rewarded than when it gets it wrong. As we approach the 11th year of our journey and 16.58% pa returns, we realize we are still only at the beginning of what we can achieve. Inflation forecast for 2024 and 2025 shows a slight deceleration from the peak, with the all-items index increasing by 3.1% YoY in January 2024, a slight drop from the 3.4% increase seen in December. However, the core CPI accelerated 3.9% YoY, exceeding expectations. Despite the optimism for a continued decrease in inflation, the current report suggests the Fed may need to keep rates higher for longer.
