As part of celebrating International Women’s Day this year, we hosted a panel discussion with team members across different Ted Baker departments - to share their experiences, challenges, and learnings.  
 
This panel took place last week in our London Head Office for an in-person audience and was also live-streamed out to our global teams. It was a wonderfully open, honest and inspiring conversation about this year’s IWD topic of #EmbraceEquity, authenticity within leadership, bringing your ‘whole self’ to work, prioritising wellbeing and the career advice that has helped shape the panellists' own journeys.

We’d like to say a big thank you to our panel host Ella Dillon – Internal Comms Partner and our brilliant panellists, Rachel Osborne – CEO, Anjali Parmar – Talent Partner, Michaela Grace Best – Buyers Admin Assistant, Carole Kingsbury – Director of IT and Susan Arnold – Bicester Location Manager.

Since setting out our targets in 2019, we have been putting in a concerted effort to make our collections from more sustainable materials. In 2019, only 12% of our materials were more sustainable, compared to 26% in 2021 and 37% in 2022 – and even though there is still a long way to go, we are incredibly proud of the progress we have made so far.  
 
Over recent years, we have come to recognise that to produce a truly beautiful product we must make responsible choices in the materials and manufacture of our garments. Our teams have been working hard to switch out conventional materials wherever possible, in order to make it easier for the customer to make the better choice. 
 
We know there’s always more that we can do, which is why this year we’re focused on introducing more sustainable material options and making it the norm in our collections, for example striving towards our interim targets for cotton, viscose, and leather. It was through the close collaboration of last year that it was made possible for 76% of our cotton to be sourced from Better Cotton or Organic Cotton, and that 78% of leather was from Leather Working Group Tanneries. It’s our goal to be using 100% more sustainable materials by 2030 – a target which we are on track to achieve.  
 
At Ted Baker, we see sustainable materials as ones that embody a reduced environmental impact, either through less water and no harmful chemicals at the raw material stage, right through to consuming less energy and waste produced by the manufactures.  
 
We’re proud of our more sustainable styles, which is why we highlight these on our website and clearly label them within all Ted Baker stores.
