Killer T cells are white blood cells that play a vital role in the immune system’s defense against diseases, including cancer and viruses. Most CTLs, including those selected and expanded using the ExacTcell platform, express T cell receptors (TCRs) that can recognize and react against foreign antigenic peptides of infected or malignant cells presented in conjunction with an HLA molecule. CTLs can induce diseased cells to undergo programmed cell death by releasing their cytolytic granules, which produces pores in the target cell’s membrane and triggers apoptosis in the target cell.
