At the latest Catalyst Series on Generative AI by the Securities Commission Malaysia and The Hive, Deputy Minister of Digital, YB Datuk Wilson Ugak anak Kumbong said during his keynote address that the Malaysian government has seized the opportunity presented by the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), working hard to transform the country into a global AI powerhouse. The Deputy Minister stated that the government is realizing this goal by simultaneously focusing on three aspects, namely AI talent, AI infrastructure, and global leadership in the AI supply chain. A McKinsey-led study in 2018 indicated that AI could add about 1.2 per cent growth to the Malaysian economy over and above the baseline of 4.5 per cent to 5 per cent rate. “ Global leadership will propel AI-led growth in the Malaysian economy beyond the McKinsey estimates,” he said. This is in line with what The Hive has been doing: investing in AI for the past 10 years, advancing education through initiatives like AI Nusantara and collaborating with partners such as GAMUDA ’s AI School and Sunway Group 's 42 KL. The Hive sees Malaysia as having the potential to become a global innovation hub.

The event was co-organised by the Securities Commission Malaysia and The Hive and supported by Penjana Kapital Sdn. Bhd., Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) , and the Malaysian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (MVCA) The summit was kickstarted by our managing partner, Dato' Syed Haizam Jamalullail , giving his welcoming remarks and inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of Digital, Yang Berhormat Datuk Wilson Ugak anak Kumbong, followed by Dato’ Mohammad Faiz Azmi , Chairman of the Securities Commission. The summit was attended by corporations, industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators who explored the transformative potential of generative AI in the digital economy. Partners and founders at The Hive, LLC , including T.M. Ravi and Kamesh Raghavendra , and The Hive Climate AI, such as Géraldine Andrieux Gustin , also flew in for the summit. Other organisations that spoke at the summit included Sunway Group , GAMUDA , Google , YTL Power International , 500 Global , Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Energy Commission) , Malaysian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (MVCA) , etc. This summit has underscored The Hive’s commitment to propelling Malaysia to become a global AI powerhouse, leveraging the country's talent, innovation, and infrastructure.
