🧂 #Salinity : the issue of #soils getting saltier. Millions of hectares of former salt #marshes near coastal areas have been drained over the last few thousand years and often used for #farming . However, due to rising sea levels, saltwater is slowly creeping back in, making traditional farming increasingly impossible. 🌿 What do we do with these millions of hectares? One approach is to #rewet the #land and grow salt-loving plants, known as halophytes, which also serve as excellent #feedstock for the #aquaculture industry and #poultry to replace the massive negative impact of #soy . 💡 So, what’s holding back large feed companies from incorporating this novel (yet historically common for #fish ) feedstock into their mixes? This project will integrate data science, nutrition science, agricultural science and management data via the creation of a pipeline to source information from various sources. This pipeline will include transformer models, natural language processing, and data extraction systems.
