In the past we've done Black Friday discounts, but as we grow as a business we are constantly aiming to do better in order to truly live our values.

So, this year we're saying goodbye to Black Friday and hello to Green Friday.

For Green Friday, we’ll contribute €1 for every product sold on 26th November to our ‘Powered by the Rainforest’ initiative. This project helps our indigenous partners in the Amazon make the change from diesel-fuelled power to solar panels. 

Diesel-powered machinery is both bad for the environment and dangerous for our partners to use, so we will work with them to harness the energy of the rainforest and convert their processes to a cleaner, more planet-friendly energy source.

At the beginning of this year I wrote a blog on the topic, how green is green marketing‘, where I shared my thoughts on the recent ‘buy my product and I‘ll plant a tree‘ (https://bit.ly/3CYWJZg)  marketing trend, which I think is utterly dangerous because 
1. it absolutely distracts from the real problem, which obviously is deforestation in the first place (my ‘to go’ on this is: save first, then plant), and 
2. it aims to tackle on the good conscious of the consumer instead of educating them about the actual problem. 

Marketing has a responsibility: it has to inform, educate and tell the truth!!
A few days ago, I received this video below, which again disturbed me and made me very angry & frustrated because there are so many things wrong in this!

1. It’s absolutely wrong to incentivize the western world to purchase land in the rainforest because 
a) the land belongs to the people of the rainforest and 
b) it does not solve the problem of deforestation. And 
c) are we back in colonialism??!!

The only solution for stopping deforestation is to make the industries responsible for deforestation more sustainable, transparent, and accountable! 
Deforestation is mainly caused by the food, mobility and energy industry. It is very dangerous to promise an easy solution to a very complex problem. We have to stop looking for an easy way out and face reality: deforestation is happening at light speed and so does climate change!! Focusing on only planting trees  or even worse ,purchasing the land of the indigenous people by white rich westerns in the name of „protection“   will not solve either deforestation nor climate change, and it is utterly utterly dangerous because it will only distract us from working on actual solutions! Climate change can only be solved by a whole set of solutions and the industries causing it need to become more sustainable but also the consumer needs to have the right information  and the truth, to help being part of the solution. 
I know this person in the video ( I have covered his face because it is not my goal to put anyone on the negative spotlight) is thinking he is being part of the solution by purchasing rainforest land. I know they do not mean to harm. The problem  here is,  that he does not see the whole picture and is not diving deep into the real problem. They are looking for something that makes them and everyone who purchases their product feel better. This is not an ego game. It is not about u, me, them. It is about the future of humanity and the future of our kids. If we don’t stop distracting and blinding, we have a bigger problem than renewable energy and sustainability ever can solve.
