I’m thrilled to share that my citations for 2024 have just surpassed the 2,000 mark. This milestone is not a measure of personal achievement, but rather a reflection of the collective efforts with many colleagues and graduate students I have been fortunate to work with over the years! My deepest gratitude goes to my coauthors, academic mentors, and graduate students for their unwavering collaboration and invaluable contributions to my research. I am also truly thankful to the manuscript reviewers and journal editors for their dedication in the publication process. Most importantly, thank you to the readers for engaging with and citing our work. Why should I post on LinkedIn? If I had a penny for every time a researcher asks me this question - I would have been a richer person by now. One of the simplest answers I tell every researcher is a very famous quote I see circling around: "Mediocrity takes lead in the conversation because the greatness is busy questioning itself." And that's precisely what happens to most researchers! 1. We don't value their own work - also because they are taught not to, but this can also be attributed to general positioning of PhD students at the bottom of the academic ladder. Since we are at the bottom ➡️ we think our voice/opinion doesn't matter➡️we don't share/speak ➡️ our voice doesn't isn't heard ➡️ we are not valued ➡️ we stay at the bottom See the cycle? 2. We don't know how to communicate in non-jargon language - this one is obvious from the majority of hot-off-the-press posts that gives anyone ZERO information on why/ the work matters - again establishing the cycle above! But it doesn't have to stay like that. It really doesn't, and fortunately LinkedIn isn't Instagram that it requires constant (like every-hour) engagement for us to grow! I discussed this with Aaron Tham for the upcoming Travel and Tourism Research Association (TTRA) Asia-Pacific conference happening next month, and I was delighted to know how he immediately registered the need for a workshop on it! So, if you are attending TTRA Asia-pacific, do register to join the workshop, because this isn't just me-coming-to-give-an-hour-monologue kind of workshop.
