The United States Postal Service (USPS) is an independent agency of the executive branch of the United States federal government responsible for providing postal service in the U.S., its insular areas, and its associated states. It is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, serving nearly 167 million residences, businesses, and Post Office Boxes. The USPS generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations.
