Motorsport has long been closely associated with petrol. But that no longer has to be the case. The world’s first all-electric racing competition for juniors is now being held for the second year in a row. The competition – NXTGenCup – is decided over five rounds, four in Germany and one in Sweden. Famous motorsport arenas are being opened up to the promising young racing stars of the future, and the first round took place on 5–7 July at the Norisring in Germany. 
 
“We’ve got 20 race-ready electric Mini Coopers that we charge up using fast chargers. These supply the car with direct current instead of the alternating current that you get from regular chargers, and that technology allows the cars to be charged at much higher power levels than when using a regular charger. Vattenfall’s battery storage is used when the local connections need an extra boost to handle the total output. This makes charging significantly faster than would otherwise be possible, between 25 and 35 minutes. This reduces waiting times between races, which is a must to run the competition in this format,” says Anders Skarin, business developer at Vattenfall Network Solutions.

First six months 2024: Vattenfall is developing positively, and reports a satisfactory result for the first half year. Increased generation contributed positively, and we are continuously working to further improve the availability of our plants and increase the effectiveness in our operations. We have been awarded a new, innovative offshore wind power project in the Netherlands and are dealing with strategically important topics for nuclear power.

New studies using ultrasound detectors on buoys and turbines provide valuable insights into how we can adapt offshore wind turbines to protect them. We have moved out of Vattenfall Diversity Month and into Pride Season. We wish our LGBTQ+ employees, partners, suppliers and all of you a happy #pride2024.

Our Diversity Month was an opportunity to shed some light on the different dimensions of diversity, for example gender and sexual orientation, ethnicity and worldview or age. Max Appenroth came to us to unpack the complexity of gender and sexual orientation. Claire Karlsson brought the topic of the modern family and work to life.

Åsa Jamal says: “Vattenfall Diversity Month in May was an opportunity to broaden our awareness and learn more about all dimensions of diversity. Learning begins with listening. In Vattenfall’s yearly employee survey, our index for Diversity and Inclusion rose to a staggering 88 per cent favourable in 2023. This means that our people acknowledge that we walk the talk, that they enjoy our corporate culture and trust our ambition to drive Diversity & Inclusion. And we are not stopping here, but rather accelerating to be a truly inclusive company where everyone has equal opportunities to contribute to our goal – working for fossil freedom.”

Our Diversity & Inclusion Index has risen from 78% in 2021 to 88% in 2023. Strengthening our D&I work will continue to be a priority at Vattenfall. Next on the agenda is Vattenfall Pride Season with various workshops, events and pride parade attendances.
