***GRATITUDE POST*** Last year I challenged my team to step outside of their comfort zone and trust me. We couldn’t afford the integrator costs to sub out our courtroom AV work any longer. At a quarter a mil per room and a 9-15% budget haircut every year we were already 4 years behind in the refresh cycle. We have 50 courtrooms, plus over 15 conference rooms all with end of life, failing technology. It was nothing short of the twilight zone going from room to room. Extron in one, AMX in the next, QSC in the 3rd. Lectrosonics, Biamp, other manufacturers I never heard of. Huge mixers and splitters everywhere. Cat5 cables bent to hell, RJ45s hanging on by a thread. Our only pathway forward was to figure out how to do it ourselves and cut out the middle man. I asked, and our team delivered. I asked them to commit to learning 20% of the work each year over the next 5 years. In 60 months, we should be pretty good at it. That was the goal. 10 months into this initiative (leap of faith), I can proudly say we just wrapped up our 3rd DIY AVoIP room (5th in total), this time around pulling and terminating all of our own cat6 and SMF LC fiber, saving an additional $25k on top of the $100k we saved bringing the work in house. This is how you get it done. Challenge and inspire your team in areas that need improvement. Be prepared to jump in and show them the way, catch them when they stumble, pick them up when they fall. That 20% I asked we commit to learning in year 1? Our team blew through that goal 4x over and our guys did it. They didn’t think they could, but they did it. We are thrilled to be at our 48 month target goal in less than 11 months, and we are just scratching the surface as far as productivity. Our team has cut the entire integration outsourcing cost in half and positioned us to move twice as fast with our builds by mass provisioning. Proud of our team, excited to keep the momentum.
